Product DescriptionOne diver, after a seemingly brief period below the surface, discovers that his gas supply has run perilously low. Another, paralyzed, bobs helplessly on the surface, and when a poorly trained divemaster attempts rescue, things go from bad to worse. Two other divers, fascinated by the bountiful undersea life of the Caribbean, fail to notice that a powerful current is sweeping them rapidly away from their unattended boat.
These are just a few of the true stories you’ll find in Diver Down, most of them involving diver error and resulting in serious injury or death. Each of these tales is accompanied by an in-depth analysis of what went wrong and how you can recognize, avoid, and respond to similar underwater calamities. This unique survival guide explores the gamut of diving situations, including cave and wreck diving, deep-water dives, river and drift diving, decompression sickness, and much more. It shows you how to prevent tragic mishaps through:
- Inspection and maintenance of primary and secondary diving gear
- Learning and following established safety protocols
- Confirming the training and credentials of diving professionals
- Practicing emergency responses under real-world conditions

Good basic diver awareness of limitations.A very quick read. Recommend all new divers read and consider the bigger picture - how each story relates to their new found adventure and responsibility for their dive.

Great book for nevby proffesional diversThe book is rich with real-life scenarios, and analises of it. It's great to inform newly promoted proffesionals (Divemasters and Instructors) in diving and prepare them for possible troubles that might occur, and how to react, and even maybe more precios HOW NOT TO REACT, to avoid even fatal results. Very objective stand of view, very fair and real. It's not for begginers in diving.

Diver DownThis is a great book for certified divers and those interested in becoming divers. I was certified many years ago and have not attended any training since. After reading Diver Down I went to my local dive shop and enrolled in another training course. I have committed some of the mistakes profiled in the book and luckily have not been hurt. I will definately pay more attention to the "rules" and stay current on my dive training.

Excellent After Accident ReviewThis book is a must read for new divers. It will really drive home the points that you were taught during certification. I don't recommend this book to the non-diver however I think it might scare non-divers out of the water.
Great after dive analysis, not only a great read but also teaches from others mistakes.

Diver ReviewScuba Diving magazine has run all of these stories. Was hoping for something I had not seen before. Did not research this before I bought it, did not realize it was just same stories. If you read Scuba Diving magazine, Lessons for Life you don't need this book unless you are looking to have them at your fingertips in one volume. Wish I had not spent the money on this.
