Little known stories..and villains
i'm fascinated by dick Tracy in the Thirties, when Gould was developing his art. The graphic, as we approach the forties, become more refined and icastic, the villains more "original" and nasty. here we have the loathsome human smuggler Bronzen, the dandyish mobster Johnny Ramm, the grotewque Scardol, the nazi spy Karpse and the overbearing Wolley. Though less imposing than the famous grotesques of the forties, they have that characteristic Gouldian quality, each one incarnates a distinct facet of evil. Gould can also create strange and fascinating women characters, as we see in the exotic Noana and in Mitzi Gaines.
In short, a book to savour!
