Dave Brubeck's moving liner notes to this 14-number assortment of solo jazz piano works are almost as good as his impressions of the standards and lesser-know Christmas music. Mixing jazz playing with classical flourishes and splashes of blues, Brubeck deftly expands the sound of Christmas. You'll never hear a "Silent Night" like Brubeck's as the glistening introduction leads to a powerful meditation on the melody. And for sheer fun, there are his swinging opening numbers, "'Homecoming' Jingle Bells" and "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town." There's magic and majesty in the ivories as he renders "Cantos para Pedir las Posadas," "To Us Is Given," and "Run, Run, Run to Bethlehem." --Martin Keller

Decent music -- awful engineering
Pretty good solo piano Christmas music.

The CD, however, is horribly mastered/engineered. All the tracks are FAR too quiet. If you rip it onto a PC and normalize it to a decent level, it will sound dramatically better.

Not quite as good as expected
Enjoyable but not as jazzy as I expected. I understand why after reading the liner notes--Brubeck wanted to do a Christmas album from music he loved as a child, with the whole family around a piano in the parlor. An old-fashioned Christmas.

I love Dave Brubeck's music but this CD didn't do it for me. Sorry Dave, not one of your better works.

Great
Lovely soothing solo piano Christmas music. Perfect for night time or during dinner. A must have.

An OK Christmas
This album was OK, not quite what I expected. If you are a big Dave Brubeck fan, I guess it would be an ok buy. There are other Christmas jazz albums that I purchased that I thought were better.
