While the cocktail lounge fad has seen more than a few musicians climb aboard as a career move, the members of Pink Martini are no bandwagon-riding aficionados. Fronted by pianist Thomas Lauderdale, Pink Martini is the real article--a band that approaches the music with unwavering seriousness yet never forgets the fun at the heart of it. Sympathique, the band's debut album reveals an incredibly diverse musical vocabulary on the part of frontman Lauderdale. And what singer China Forbes lacks in range and dynamics, she more than compensates for in attack, approach, and a clear understanding of the material. While most of the songs are upbeat, in the hands of Lauderdale and Forbes, "Qué será será," with its dark atmospherics should be rechristened "Qué será noir." --Wayne Pernu

pink martini
i first heard this band at work, and boy did we all take notice. the music is full and lush, the vocals are incredible. makes me think of old hollywood style singing. big band ALMOST, but so much more. the track cue sera sera is incredibly haunting, both the words, the voice, and more so, the music, there is so much going on in this song we all know, that it is NEW. i am definately a huge pink martini fan.

one side note, i have purchased three copies of this, so i could give it as gifts. some copies do NOT have the bollero on it........ make sure your copy does. other than that, huge thumbs up.

Fun gift
I heard this CD at a friend's home and enjoyed it. My husband ordered it for me. I was very suprised with his gift and enjoy listening to the music while driving home from work. Every song is a musical treat.

Pink Martini is Fantastic
I love this CD! I am not a musician but can appreciate all the work that went into this music. The music is incredible, the lyrics wonderful and China Forbes voice is flawless! The varied influences and languages make this a great collection.

Funky and fun
Loved "Sympathique" by Pink Martini...50's music cocktail music with a modern twist. Pink Martini presents a multi-lingual approach with fabulous voices, and great instrumentals. You've got to hear their version of "Que Sera Sera"....

Really good music
This is a very good album -- not generally my type of music (jazz), but this is really good. China Forbes' voice is beautiful.
