It's almost impossible to believe it didn't already exist, but now that it does, you can bet the sure-to-go-platinum These Are Special Times will turn up under many a Christmas tree this year (the perfect gift for the person who has everything?). The prolific princess of pop has thrown together a mixture of contemporary and traditional holiday favorites, bordering on too-cute and kitschy only on the intro to "Feliz Navidad." For many, Dion is an acquired taste, but even naysayers may enjoy her rare moments of restraint on a smoky version of "Blue Christmas." "The Prayer," a duet with Andrea Bocelli, is set to become this season's "Time to Say Goodbye," but it will have to battle it out with the R. Kelly duet, "I'm Your Angel," first. --Rebecca Wallwork

My favorite christmas album!
This cd is the best christmas cd ever. Her original song will become a classic christmas song. She puts tons of emotion into this cd which drowns the audience with emotion as well. Another Year Has Gone By and The Special Times are real heart wrenching!
Get it, if you're not sure, you wont be dissapointed!

No Depth to it
Mariah Carey she is not! Her version of O Holy Night is just mediocre compared to Mariah's version. Get the ultimate christmas album: mariah's Merry Christmas

Like the performance but the recording quality is very poor
This is one of my all time favorite Christmas CDs despite many of the criticisms of song selection (I agree, some just don't belong). I'm not a huge fan of Celine's music but I really enjoy her performance on this CD. The problem is that the recording quality is, at times, extremely poor. You can actually hear wow and flutter (or their equivalent) on a CD, and incredible distortion at other times. Thinking this was a defective CD, I bought two more, and the exact same problems occur at the same moments played on 4 different high end (home) audio systems. It's a shame a performance of this caliber had to be tarnished by such terrible attention to audio fidelity. These are the producer's and recording engineer's failures. Celine's performance is very good in my opinion, and despite the audio failures, is a seasonal favorite of mine.

It's good. Trust me.
Yes, it's Celine Dion.

I know that people have their negative opinions of Celine, and I have some to as I am only a moderate fan. However, I must say that this album is thoroughly enjoyable. Christmas albums are often dismissed as just a safe piece of product to earn some cash. While this album is pretty safe (like most of Celine's releases), it's supposed to be for enjoyment around the holidays and Christmas albums are supposed to be light. Her voice and her style of music work well for the seasonal genre. Standout tracks include:

"Don't Save It All For Christmas Day" - an original Christmas ballad about showing love all year round, and not just on Christmas.
"Brahm's Lullaby" - a very soothing rendition of this classic lullaby. She sounds very good went her voice is restrained.
"Blue Christmas" - a fantastic jazzy remake of the song made popular by the King, Elvis Presley. I love his version, and Celine does this song justice.
"The Prayer" - This is a duet with Andrea Bocelli. They both have really strong voices yet different musical styles so they compliment each other.
"I'm Your Angel" - This #1 hit isn't a Christmas song, but it fits well with this CD. R. Kelly sounds great, and this unlikely duet is very nice. I'm not surpirsed it was a huge success.

So, I can honestly say that this CD is good. Regardless if you are a big fan or not, I think you will actually enjoy this album. Give it a chance.
