Great tool
Great tool! This thing works great without bending over or messing with fuel and get a little exercise. Simple, durable, and made in US!

This whip works great!
The yard I have is about 30x40 with cultured plants and wide walking paths running through it. This whip got all the weeds on the paths and it makes no difference how high they are. It's very little effort, lightweight, you don't have to use wide strong swings, and it ended up being a lot of fun to use. It did not do well on clumps of high grass. Them I had to pull by hand. The blade is not razor sharp and I really don't know how it's able to cut weeds, but it does it very well without fear of hitting myself and getting cut. I'd recommend it for anyone with small areas needing weed whacking.Ames True Temper Serrated Grass Whip #1942600

No cord, no gas, no noise
I love this tool, use it to keep a large city lot from being overrun. Tried weed wackers of all variety, the time to clear the reels, load the cord and then trying to twist the sticky weeds from around the spool was more than half of the job. The Grass Whip works immediately and continually (as long as you do), and provides great exercise, using the same muscles as golf if you are a linkster.

No fossil fuels required from a can or a plug so there is a certain smugness that will go with your sweatiness, if I'm really feeling Gore-Like while resting I'll lean it on my Prius in the driveway, if you look hard you can see the green glow:^>

Does what it needs to do
It's nice to be able to whack a few weeds every now and then without having to dig out a long extension cord or deal with a gas starter. I had something very similar for years and have been searching for a replacement ever since that blade bit the dust. Unable to find one locally it finally occurred to me to check Amazon. Delivery was on time and the item arrived in perfect shape. My only "wish" is, now that I've used it, that it had a rubbery handle instead of the wood one. I don't feel like my grip is as good on this one as my old one.

Scythe
I am very happy with this scythe. It cuts easily through most weeds, which is great because that's what I bought it for. It doesn't cut through grass as easily, but that's OK with me, because most of the areas that I need to trim are overgrown weeds. You just have to work a bit harder to cut through tall grasses - in case that's what you are looking to use it for. Using the scythe is good exercise, too - but it's not enough to get you really winded (unless you're kind of out of shape). I actually bought two of these scythes - one to keep in the front yard, and one to keep in the back yard. Turns out that was a good thing, because my (14 year old) son and my (12 year old) nephew (who is visiting us for the summer) had a great time using them to cut back some of the weeds in my back yard. I just made sure they understood that they could NOT work ANYWHERE NEAR EACH OTHER, for safety's sake. It's the first time my son has actually volunteered to help with the yard work. I guess using a garden tool (e.g. a scythe) which also doubles as a weapon on some of his video games was the secret to his interest. Or, to steal a concept from Rita Rudner - "teenage boys will do yardwork, when there's danger involved". Oh, well - whatever their reason, the boys really like using these scythes; and so do I. I highly recommend them for a healthy way to trim your weeds without having to struggle with the nylon fishing line (which always tangles up on me and/or breaks) or electrical cords (that never seem to reach far enough) on one of those electric weed-wackers!
