Not Mainstream RockabillyWhat's mainstream Rockabilly?
Carl perkins, Johnny Horton, Johnny Cash, some Wanda Jackson.
Mainstream is a purer more refined sound.
This is pretty rough.
I would advise everyone to listen to the sound bites first so your no suprised. I never have been able to listen with Windows media Player to this sound bites although I use it for other music.
To use Amazom sound you need the new Mozilla Foxfire and Real player.
Even then some cds don't have the sound bites available.
I love Rockabilly, I guess with more of a country flavor than rock.
When asked to tag this product some of the suggestions were 50s punk, 50s punk rock. I'd say that fits the cd more than Rockabilly does.

They always say rockabilly was the punkrock of its dayAnd this proves it. For sheer power and angst, nothing beats the early rockabily stylings that were fusing jazz, country, and teen hormones at a furious rate. There is some delicious Carl Perkins on this one, and I think some Link Wray, and although there are better examples of the pacesetters of the day, this one is a nice perspective of the more obscure artists out there.

Great Rockabilly from the Columbia Vaults! This CD is way better than the first! First you have the insane hillbilly Ronnie Self belting out "forget about the danger and think of the fun" in a screw you devil be damned sneer to 1950's conformity! Then you have the awesome ghostly echoing song by Carl Perkins "Where the Rio Flows"! Link Wray laying down strip tease raunch in "New Studio Blues"! What more could you want! Songs that are white trash, rebellion, lustful, and crazy. Hear the barb wire guitars assault your ears! Hear the violent slapping of the stand up bass! The pummeling drums! The Screaming insane vocals! Got to have it!

Just what I hoped for and moreBought this along with the "Whistle Bait" compilation -- it's fun and full of energy, and the sound quality is great. Plus, I'd like to buy a wall calendar from whoever designed the album cover. I had this CD on through my headphones at the gym this morning -- great workout music!
